No Standing

This is a proof-of-concept short I did to test out some ideas I have for my final thesis project. There are still a million little errors and problems, but I’m ready to move on to bigger and better things. It was completed in Seattle, Washington on 2009-12-17.

Shakespeare Showdown

This is the final result of the Shakespeare Showdown project (http://shakespeareshowdown.com/), in which people voted through several rounds to determine the most tragic figure in all of Shakespeare’s works. It was completed in Seattle, Washington on 2009-12-15. The rest of Team Shakespeare is Paul Barkshire, Jin Kong, Maré Odomo and Blake Wilton.

Sweet Crude Trailer

It was about time I added editing to the list of things I pretend I’m able to do. Here’s the “final” version of the trailer I cut for Sandy Cioffi’s amazing documentary, Sweet Crude.

This cut was completed on 2009-09-23 in Seattle, Washington.

Spring 2009 Motion Reel

This is my second reel, once again created for a scholarship portfolio review. It consists of a wide range of stuff I’ve worked on over the last few years and was completed in Seattle, Washington on 2009-03-15.

Girls – End of the World

This is a video I worked on for San Francisco band Girls. They ended up not releasing the song and I got sidetracked by various things, but it’s more or less complete if not particularly polished and I doubt I’ll work on it again.

Finished or not, massive thanks go to Chloé McLennan, without whom none of this would have come together.

This video was shot in San Francisco, California and completed on 2008-12-10 in Seattle, Washington.

Northwest Film Forum Promo

This promo for the NW Film Forum was created for my Visual Narrative for Design class at Cornish College of the Arts. It was completed using Adobe After Effects and Apple Soundtrack on 2008-11-10 in Seattle, WA.

Thanks to Andrew Buffelen, Lindsay Corbett, Steven Ackley, Joshua Williamson and Sage Price for starring in it, Joshua Tillman for help with lighting the green screen and Heidi Korndorfer for providing some last-minute costumes.

Celebrating Sin

This short was created for my Type in Motion class at Cornish College of the Arts. The assignment was to explore the seven deadly sins using typography and I chose to use various holidays as my inspiration. It was completed in Seattle, Washington on 2008-10-22

Many thanks to Chloé McLennan for constant input and advice, even though I continually made her mad by ignoring it.

Leading the Blind

This one-minute short film (my first real attempt at this kind of animation) was created for my Visual Narrative for Design class at Cornish College of the Arts. It was completed on 2008-10-07 in Seattle, Washington using Adobe Flash.
Many thanks to David Garner for the generous gift of a Wacom tablet that made this a *much* more manageable process.

Word Transition: Simple/Complex

For this Type in Motion assignment each student was given a pair of words and ten seconds to transition from one to the other. For the pairing of “simple” and “complex”, I chose to explore their similarities rather than their differences and viewed my transition as a shift of perspective as something seemingly simple reveals itself to be much more complex. This version was completed using Maxon Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects in Seattle, Washington on 2008-09-22.

One and Twenty

This is the second half of a two-part assignment in which we were to first take a short passage from a song or poem and create an all-analog poster that matched the mood and content using only type. We then had to create a short stop-motion animation of the same. I chose a passage from A.E. Housman’s A Shropshire Lad and animated it on an overhead projector. This animation was completed in Seattle, Washington on 2008-04-28.
