The idea was to create a system that could automatically create an engaging kinetic type animation for virtually any song. The current version was completed on 2008-12-03 in Seattle, Washington using Processing.

This is a video I worked on for San Francisco band Girls. They ended up not releasing the song and I got sidetracked by various things, but it’s more or less complete if not particularly polished and I doubt I’ll work on it again.
Finished or not, massive thanks go to ChloƩ McLennan, without whom none of this would have come together.

This is a screencast of a Processing sketch I developed called TypeStar. It’s basically a karaoke machine that renders lyrics in realtime according to a number of preset visualization schemes.
It was originally created for a project in my Type in Motion class which required students to create a kinetic type animation for the Busy Bee scene from the movie Best in Show. I decided that rather than create yet another kinetic type piece, I would write a kinetic type engine.
